About Dr. Habach

Dr. Habach PictureAs a curious and dream-filled adolescent, Dr. Habach was in search of his calling. Many things had peaked his interest, but nothing seemed to grasp a deep fascination within him. This all changed by witnessing the compassion and sincerity displayed by a physician in his family. Not only did the physician hold himself and his treatment of others to higher standards, but he was also able to have a clear and fruitful impact on the lives of others. These ideals greatly echoed within Dr. Habach’s heart and mind. It became clear that he had found his calling. Driven by a strong motivation to learn and succeed, Dr. Habach was determined to become a physician and impact the lives of many.

Dr. Habach completed medical school at Damascus University, and a one year externship in London, England. After graduating from medical school, Dr. Habach served as a Program Officer for United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in Damascus where he played a pivotal role in the achievement of immunizing 1.3 million Syrian children. His deep interest in the policy and public health aspects of healthcare influenced him to pursue a Master of Public Health (MPH) at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. He then completed his medical training with an Internal Medicine residency at the University of Connecticut and a Nephrology Fellowship at the University of Michigan.

Dr. Ghayas Habach has been active in the practice of Internal Medicine and Nephrology for almost 25 years. Dr. Habach is board certified in both Internal Medicine and Nephrology.

Through these many years of experience, Dr. Habach’s concept of the responsibilities a physician has to his patients and community has come to extend beyond only providing quality patient care. He believes physicians also have a duty to educate, teaching patients how to care for their health, not only alleviating symptoms and prescribing drugs. Physicians have a duty to advocate for their patients, always keeping their best interest a top priority. And most importantly, Dr. Habach believes physicians should be role models who demonstrate the ideals of ethics, righteousness, and compassion in every aspect of their lives. This is what being a physician means to Dr. Habach, and these are the ideals he has strived to embody for the last 25 years, and continues to strive towards with enthusiasm and focus.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Habach enjoys reading poetry and history, playing tennis, and listening to music, especially James Taylor. He also enjoys spending time with his children, watching them grow and develop into independent and passionate individuals.
